A star-studded cast is set to bring "Our Town" back to Broadway.
Jim Parsons, Zoey Deutch and Katie Holmes will lead a new Broadway revival of the classic 1938 play by Thornton Wilder, the production said on Wednesday. Parsons has landed the role of the Stage Manager, while Deutch will play Emily Webb and Holmes will portray Mrs. Webb.
"Our Town" depicts life in a fictional New Hampshire village during the early 20th century, and it's often considered one of the greatest plays of all time. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1938.
From Tony-winning director Kenny Leon, this will be the first major Broadway revival of "Our Town" in almost 25 years, a press release noted. Paul Newman starred in a previous production on Broadway in 2002.
The play by Thornton Wilder "in my mind stands at the top of the Mount Rushmore of great American Theatre," Leon said in a statement. "I feel blessed and fortunate to have gained the trust of The Wilder estate to present this classic to another generation of theatre lovers."

Leon, who won a Tony for his direction of a revival of "A Raisin in the Sun," added, "It's long been a burning desire to collaborate on a Broadway production of such magnitude that speaks so beautifully and intimately to all people about our shared time on the planet."
Tappan Wilder, the nephew of the late playwright, said that "Our Town" is "performed at least once every day somewhere in the world" and that its themes are still relevant today.
"We live in a dangerously fractured world," Wilder said. "It's hard for us to recognize the experiences we all share: life, death, love. Which means that it’s a good thing that my uncle’s play is back on Broadway, with its timely reminder that we all live together in our town."
